International Travel Assistance and Medical Coverage
Tufts University partners with On Call International to provide global assistance and medical coverage to all Tufts travelers on university-related business and programs.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the coverage your trip must be:
- University-related
AND - Registered with the Tufts Travel Registry or part of a Tufts approved and organized international program such as a Global Education program, a Global Research Assistant Program, or a Tufts European Center program.

The On Call International Resource Hub is a central repository for all Tufts-specific materials including:
- Global Risk Intelligence Platform
- Log in with Tufts GROUP ID 100181GRIP22 to view incident briefs, daily reports, country risk reports, and risk publications
- Plan Documents, including a Plan ID, summary of benefits, and guide to accessing On Call International services
- Description of tele-counseling services

Tufts and On Call International
If you need emergency or non-emergency medical assistance while abroad contact On Call International at +1 978-651-9216, 24/7 worldwide. Their medical team will assess your medical need, make an appointment with a vetted health care provider at your location, and render necessary payments to the provider.
On Call International and Tufts Global Operations have several resources to help you prepare for your international travel. Travelers are encouraged to:

- Speak with a member of the On Call International medical and security team about:
- Travel health, safety, and security risks at your destination and how to mitigate those risks
- How to manage a medical condition or access prescription medication while traveling internationally
- Accessing mental health support while abroad
- Vaccination recommendations and requirements for your destination(s)
- Submit a trip itinerary review request to receive a report from On Call International that will address risks for your destination(s).

In some cases, Tufts travelers need proof of medical coverage for visa or program requirements. If you require proof of coverage, please contact Global Operations at internationalsafety@tufts.edu and provide your destination(s) and the start and end date for your time abroad.

The On Call International Resource Hub can be saved to your mobile device. Simply scan the QR code in the Plan Documents section and follow the prompts. This will allow you to access all the resources in the hub easily from your phone. It will also enable direct dialing to On Call International should you need medical or security assistance while traveling.
On Call International also sends critical incident alerts to registered Tufts travelers. This service is powered by the OnSolve Risk Intelligence application which is available for download. The first time you register a university-related trip in the Tufts Travel Registry, you will receive an email confirming your registration to use theOnSolve Risk Intelligence application with links to download it. The app provides intelligence reports and enables Tufts University and On Call to request check-ins and assist you if there is an incident that impacts your health or safety. To optimize usage of the app, use the recommended settings found in the Mobile App User Guide.
Enrollment is easy! Simply register your university-related international trip in the Tufts Travel Registry and your information is automatically sent to On Call International. Your coverage will begin on the first day of your trip and end on the last day of your trip, or when you return to the U.S. or your home country.
Note: students or travelers who are confirmed participants in a Tufts approved and organized international program such as a Global Education program, a Global Research Assistant Program, or a Tufts European Center program are automatically enrolled. Yes. Mental health counseling services are covered for emergency and non-emergency situations and include in-person or remote counseling sessions. Emergency inpatient mental health services are also covered.
Yes, there are certain situations where coverage is not applied.
Coverage does not apply on trips longer than 365 consecutive days.
Coverage restrictions may be in place for travel to Israel, the Palestinian territories, Ukraine, and when traveling to one's home country.

There are some medical and security services that are not covered through this program:
- Routine care, preventative care, physical exams (this includes most dental care and contraceptives)
- Routine or non-emergency dental expenses
- Non-emergency evacuations
- Inpatient substance abuse care
- Travel immunizations
- Non-emergency vision expenses
- Health care or evacuation services in the U.S.
- Home health care or custodial services
- Routine maternity expenses and maternity expenses after 26 weeks of pregnancy
- Evacuations from a traveler’s home country
- There may be limitations if you are traveling to your home country, please contact internationalsafety@tufts.edu for more information.
A Plan ID card is available in the On Call International Resource Hub but, it is not required to access program benefits. You simply need to call On Call International to receive services.
No. There is no annual deductible or co-pay for this program.
