Reception for "Cuba: Historias de un Sueño"

to

Oct 21, 2024, 4:30pm EDT

Over sixty years ago, Fidel Castro led the Cuban Revolution selling dreams of social equality, improved education, healthcare for all, and a prosperous future for the Cuban people. Yet, decades later, Cuba continues to grapple with the economic challenges that have shaped its history. For over 40 years, a combination of external sanctions, internal policies, corruption, and a stagnant economy have pushed many Cubans to seek opportunities abroad.

While the stories of Cuban exiles and immigrants in the U.S. are frequently shared, we rarely hear the stories of those who remain on the island.

Through over 50 interviews with Havana locals from different backgrounds, students from the Tisch Initiative for Global Leadership have created a collection of stories and photos that explore the everyday lives and challenges in Cuba’s capital. Cuba: Historias de un Sueño (Cuba: Tales of a Dream) serves as a living collection of stories and photos to depict the current state of the Cuban Dream.

Cuba: Historias de un Sueño is a project by Carolina Hidalgo-McCabe and Francisco Salazar.
